Merlin is "just" a tv mini series, but it actually looks like a real movie.
The best tv film ever. (I haven't seen Angels in America yet). Great stars, one of the best soundtracks ever (my favourite), great atmosphere...
Sean Connery is great. Can't say I've seen the sequel, though...
I'll give this flick a good score because it's 'heart' is in the right place. The DVD has some good extras. The flipside is 'A New Beginning', but as soon as it began and I saw the cutesy dragon they used that was it for me.
one of the best movies ever!

This movie is a tear jerker. Starring Dennis Quaid and the voice of Sean Connery, it is funny, sweet and gory all at the same time. A trainer for the young king, Bowen, (Quaid) is turned against dragons because of a tragic incident. He vows to kill every dragon on the planet. When he meets Draco (Connery) he realizes he will need to rethink his plan. Full of special effects and humor, this movie is one to watch many times.

Quotes
Draco: Who's the girl?
Bowen: A nuisance! Get rid of her!
Draco: Why?
Bowen: They're trying to placate you with a sacrifice!
Draco: Oh, now who ever gave them that bright idea?
Bowen: Never mind! Just get rid of her!
Draco: How?
Bowen: Eat her!
Draco: Oh, please. YUCK!
Bowen: Aren't we squeamish, you ate Sir Egglemore, hypocrite!
Draco: I merely chewed in self-defense, but I never swallowed.

Young Einon: The peasants are revolting.
Brok: They've always been revolting. But now they're rebelling.

Gilbert: Well done, Bowen! What a brute! That's even bigger than the last one!
Bowen: Actually, it's about the same size.

Dragonheart: 6/10

This is an enjoyable film that I thought at first was going to be nothing but eye-candy. So much had been talked about the film's special effects, particularly the dragon effects, I figured that was all there was to it. The film is going have great effects but no plot or anything else. Fortunately I was wrong.

The effects are very good. Draco is rendered very well and Sean Connery's voice fits the character excellently. I also like the story. The dragon being afraid of losing his soul, the tyrant and the dragon sharing mortality, the disillusioned knight finding faith again. It's pretty good. My only problem was at the start. It's VERY obvious to the viewer that Einen is a psycho, power hungry, killer. Even before he pries the crown from his dying father's hands. To obvious in fact that when the knight blames the dragon for what's happening I said "Huh?"

The actors do great with the story and their character's place in it. The music score is nice and adds to the film's moments. This is a very well done fantasy film that turned out to be more than just an effects show.
