More movies I watched at grandmother's house...

Oliver

*Sigh*, not as good as I remembered, but still has some solid music numbers (though most drag on too long, which is one of the film's biggest flaws), and has an unforgettable story. "Who Will Buy" gives me goosebumps.

Nightmare Before Christmas

Wow. It's been a while since I watched this, but it's amazing and absolutely perfect. Strong emotional core with Jack, dark and clever animation and story, great music and direction.

My Dog Skip

Yeah, I watched this instead of It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas day.

Mean Girls

We all know my love for Mean Girls.

An American in Paris

Painfully mediocre. I was really disappointed.

**/****

Pro: Production value. Moody. The direction.

Con: Terrible acting outside of Moody. Much too "G" rated for me. The film that somehow won a Best Picture Oscar...while 2001: ASO wasn't even nominated!?
This movie you will love to see again and again. When I was very little I saw this movie, and I have seen it more than 100 times since. I have become so fond of this great musical (that certainly deserved its academy awards!) that I now own the VHS, DVD, CD, and Lyric book. I also read the Charles Dickens Classic afterwards, and felt that I was offending the great author when I felt that the movie was more enjoyable(though I also like sad novels) This is for the whole family, no question. The only thing that jots my mind when I was little that frightened me the murder of Nancy by her lover Sikes. It is around the corner, but the sound effects are a bit scary, though suitable for the mature 5 or 6 year old or ages 7 and up. Though adults and teens will understand the fact that Bill and Nancy are lovers, and that she is a prostitute(it is only implied, so don't worry about your children asking you what it meant) and small fights with Bill and Nancy. There is only one major time, when he hits her, that it worried me at all. The fact that she was a prostitute and they were lovers passed right by me, untill I was about 10-12. This is definately a movie I will share with my children, and I think it should always be a classic, and NEVER redone.
ANOTHER OSCAR WINNING BEST PICTURE MUSICAL. I WILL SAY THIS FOR THE ACADEMY, WHEN THEY PICK A MUSICAL AS BEST PICTURE, THEY PICK GOOD ONES. IT'S PROBABLY MY LEAST FAVORITE ACADEMY AWARD WINNING MUSICAL, BUT THIS IS A GOOD FILM, WITH SOME VERY GOOD MUSICAL NUMBERS. NICE CAST, GOOD ATMOSPHERE.

I will stick to my David Lean Oliver Twist. Much better film. This isn't to shabby and at least it doesn't cheat its audience and dumb it down. The songs are pretty good. Loses some of its darkness.
