INNOCUOUS DISNEY FILM, AMUSING AT TIMES BUT FOR THE MOST PART IS IS JUST INANE. DECENT CAST.

The Apple Dumpling Gang
Funny, smart, good acting, and lots of fun for everyone! I highly reccomend seeing it!
Oh, the Hallmark Channel. I could be watching Phil Collins apparently having a seizure on Live Earth. But no, I'm watching Tim Conway and Don Knotts try to steal a gold nugget the size of their mule's head from a bank instead. Alas.

Gwen points out that this is at least as much my fault for having wretched taste. There we are, though.

Mr. Donovan, the man who takes care of the children, is played by Bill Bixby. I kid you not. Actually, I'm rather astonished by the range of bad TV shows he's been on, such as The Courtship of Eddie's Father and My Favorite Martian. What kind of career is that?

I have the book that this claims to be based on, too, and I have to tell you, it has less in common with the movie than The Moon-Spinners has in common with its movie. The movie's better; at least you get Slim Pickens with the movie, and Harry Morgan.

Harry Morgan, best known as Colonel Potter, is in a lot of these old movies. He's in the sequel as a completely different character; this was a popular choice in his career, it seems. Here, he's a sort of jack-of-all-trades, just as in Support Your Local Sheriff. Sheriff, justice of the peace, barber, and poker player. This puts him in the center of things but not the focus; again, he does that a lot.

I feel awfully sorry for Dusty. She's married to Mr. Donovan in the middle of the movie in order to take care of the kids, and it immediately becomes obvious that she's going to be taken for granted. Poor thing--though she's certainly capable of standing up for herself!

I love this movie in the same way I love pretty much every Disney movie I've written about. It's not good, and I don't pretend it is. But oh, I love it.
